Portraits of People

I am a people watcher, they fascinate me since rarely are any two completely identical, even with twined siblings or the occasional occurrence when two unrelated people get the same face, there is usually something in their general manner that sets them apart so, I have always wanted to draw or paint people.

I used to watch my dad drawing caricatures; his ability to sum someone up in a simple line drawing amazed me. Sadly, it was not a skill I inherited, however I did have the patience and ability to draw detail, so instead I tried to capture the person I saw, once I got to know them. You will find examples of some of my earlier sketches in the 'All People' menu.

I started with people I knew and moved onto so called fan art, drawing and painting everyone I admired and when I was not drawing people, I was drawing the wonderful animals I shared my life with, something I continue to do today.

My love of art and learning did not end after I left school as drew whenever I got the opportunity and continued my education in my own time.

I feel Portraits have far more to offer than a photograph especially when it comes to capturing a person’s individual character and spirit, plus they can show far more detail, bringing an image to life which can insight much more vivid memories of someone we care about or love.

But since most of my work in times of Coronavirus means working from photographs, I can't get to know the subject personally so I need your help, which is why I will ask you questions about the subject’s personality, that way I can try to capture what makes the subject the person they are and attempt to reflect as much of this as possible in your portrait.

Commissioning Portraits could not be easier

If you want to commission a portrait or have a query, please use my contact form on the prices and Info pages or you can reach me by phone, email or through the links to Facebook and Instagram at the bottom of this page.

I will respond as soon as I can and, if necessary, let you know how to provide photos or request more information about what you would like me to do, the subject of the portrait and how you want it presented.

Once we agree on everything and have chosen suitable photos, I will invoice you for the deposit, and slot you into my work schedule. I will notify you again when I am ready to start on your portrait. If your circumstances change before this point and you no longer wish to proceed, let me know and I will refund your deposit.

After starting I will email you a photo of the layout so you can check everything and will continue to send you regular updates throughout the process, collaborating with you to ensure you receive a portrait that you are truly happy with.

I require a £25 deposit on accepting your commission. The balance plus any shipping costs, (if you are not collecting in person) are due on completion.

Quotes in writing remain effective for 3 months. Deposits are no longer refundable once I start working on your portrait, this is to cover some of the costs for time spent and wasted materials as these cannot be recovered once work commences.

I have included a few of my recent testimonials on the testimonials page, so you can be confident that I will provide you with a portrait that is lifelike and will bring you many years of cherished memories of a much-loved companion.
